Michael Cadiz is a Seattle, Washington, native, who moved his workshop to Graz, Austria, in 2016. He built his first guitar at the age of 15. He feels profoundly grateful for Robert Ruck, who invited him to stay for a while in his workshop to share his philosophy and approach to guitar building and from whom he learned a lot. Furthermore, he also received great support from the Seattle builders Rick Davis and Greg Oxrieder. In 2016, he moved his workshop to Graz, Austria, where he has successfully built guitars ever since.
The 2024 Michel Cadiz 64 cm guitar represents a harmonious blend of historical allure and modern performance. This Modern Concert model, crafted using traditional hide glue and a seven-fan bracing system with few cross struts, is Michel Cadiz's endeavor to merge the charm of late-nineteenth-century Spanish instruments with the qualities sought after by today's guitarists. This guitar excels in dynamic range, timbral variety, clarity, and balance, offering a sound that leans towards the mid-twentieth-century style while retaining a traditional voice. Cadiz focuses on achieving a clear and even frequency response, ensuring the guitar's sound carries well in large halls without being overwhelmed by excessive mid-frequencies. The construction, though stiffer overall, maintains a low body resonance, preserving the traditional bloom in the basses and ensuring evenness and increased headroom across the instrument’s tonal spectrum.
