Lorenzo Frignani

Lorenzo Frignani, based in Modena, is one of Italy’s most respected makers and restorers of plucked and bowed instruments. Active since the late 1970s and working professionally since 1985, he has won several national and international competitions (including Bagnacavallo and Baveno) and has served on juries for various lutherie contests. Frignani collaborates as a consultant with museums and music foundations and serves as Artistic Advisor to the Municipality of Pieve di Cento. As Vice President of the Associazione Liuteria Italiana (A.L.I.), he plays a significant role in shaping modern Italian instrument making. In addition to building and restoring instruments, he is an author and publisher; in 2007 he founded LF Edizioni, dedicated to translating and producing specialized literature on plucked and bowed instruments.

Lorenzo Frignani – Guitar Maker from Modena

Lorenzo Frignani has been interested in the construction of plucked and bowed instruments since the late 1970s. He began his professional career in this field in 1985 and has since received numerous national and international awards. He is the winner of various plucked and bowed instrument making competitions (Bagnacavallo and Baveno) and has also served as a jury member in different competitions (Baveno and Pisogne). As a consultant, he collaborates with museum authorities and music foundations. Lorenzo Frignani is the Artistic Advisor of the Municipality of Pievi Cento (Bologna).

Furthermore, he is Vice President of the ‘Associazioni Liuteria Italiana’ (A.L.I.) and was a member of the French ‘Association des Luthiers et Archetiers pour le Développement de la Facture Instrumentale’ (A.L.A.D.F.I.) for many years. In addition to building new instruments, he is dedicated to the restoration of plucked and bowed instruments. He is the author of various publications and catalogues on classical and antique plucked and bowed instruments, which he also collects. In 2007, he founded his own publishing house (LF Edizioni) with the aim of translating foreign-language specialist literature on plucked and bowed instrument making into Italian.
