Daryl Perry Guitars: Crafting Tradition and Innovation
A Perry guitar epitomizes the finest in design, materials, and craftsmanship. Each instrument is born of a profound commitment to construct the most complete musical instrument possible—one brimming with potential for the fullest range of musical expression. Perry guitars possess a rich, open sound with deep, well-defined basses, clear, resonant highs, and an exceptional equilibrium. They boast a wide dynamic range and an extensive color palette, all while excelling in projection. Their melodies resonate across concert halls worldwide, enchanting audiences in solo and chamber music performances alike. Crafted from well-aged spruce, rosewood, maple, cedar, mahogany, and ebony, Perry guitars are the embodiment of traditional methods, with only a limited number produced annually. Our unwavering standard of craftsmanship extends to every facet of the guitar—structural integrity, playability, and all aesthetic details—but above all, to sound quality.
Our work finds its muse in the revered luthiers of the past, particularly Torres, and those who were inspired by his work before me (M. Ramirez, Garcia, Simplicio, Hauser, Romanillos). A Perry guitar forsakes carbon fiber, featuring just one soundhole and one soundboard, embracing traditional designs renowned for their ability to birth exceptional guitars.
Perry guitars exist within two categories: Perry Concert Guitars, melding traditional designs and materials into an instrument that meets the demands of modern guitarists, and historical reproductions, several of which grace this page.
Daryl Perry:
“The ideas of Torres laid the foundation for guitar development from the 19th through the 20th into the 21st century as the guitar’s demands evolved. My evolution as a guitar maker has been more about discovery than reinvention of the guitar. I make historical reproductions as a way to uncover and inherit tradition. My concert guitars are my contribution to their evolution.”
“I firmly believe that there is no substitute for the intimate knowledge of materials that arises from hand laboring with hand tools. This comprehension is invaluable in unlocking the musical potential of these materials.”
