Yuichi Imai - 2014 - Y.J. EX

Yuichi Imai - 2014 - Y.J. EX

Overview

Yuichi Imai is one of the most reputable guitar makers from Japan. He was born in Tokyo in 1949. At age eighteen, he started his apprenticeship with Akira Nakade and studied with him for three years before opening his own workshop in 1971. Today, he is considered one of the best luthiers in Japan and enjoys an outstanding international reputation. Yuichi Imai’s guitars are not so easy to find outside Japan due to the high demand in the local market. Several world-class players have played Imai guitars, including Aniello Desiderio, Frank Bungarten, Roman Viazovskiy, and Alvaro Pierri.

This 2014 instrument is an outstanding concert guitar in every aspect. With its impressive volume, excellent projection, quick response, and eloquent voicing, it’s the ideal versatile guitar for stage performances, studio recordings, or small venues. The exceptional craftsmanship of Imai is evident in the highly decorated spruce soundboard, Indian rosewood back and sides, and the beautifully carved headstock. The top has a delicate honey colour, given by a so called “cashew” finish. It remains in excellent condition and has a well-developed and mature sound. The firm basses and rich trebles, along with its excellent balance and note separation, make it a highly adaptable instrument for any musical context. Overall, it is a concert-level guitar from a highly respected luthier at an great price to performance ratio.

Yuichi Imai 2014 Y. J. EX Classical Guitar Review

While this guitar is sold, these are ready for you

  • Classical Guitar

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
