Overview
Masaki Sakurai, the nephew of the great Japanese luthier Masaru Kohno, was born in 1944. He studied electrical engineering at Sophia University and joined “Kohno Guitar Manufacturing” after graduating in 1967. In 1988 he won the prestigious first prize at the Fourth International Paris Guitar Making Competition. Masaki Sakurai’s guitars are of impeccable craftsmanship and are known for their ease of playing and a great volume of sound.
The Maestro model is a very beautiful guitar made from the oldest and highest quality precious woods found in the Kohno stock. This exceptional guitar is as new, without any signs of play wear. It is built with the seven fan bars and an asymmetrical bracing typical of Masaki Sakurai, combined with three very thin crossbars. This guitar is responsive and has an excellent volume. Furthermore, the sound is precise and projects clearly. It is a guitar with an optimal balance and a relatively neutral but very malleable tone. This allows the guitarist to express himself freely in all repertoires. It is therefore an instrument rich in timbre, very easy to play, and without a doubt capable of filling concert halls.
