About the luthier
Born in Galliate in 1994, Luca Pollastro discovered his passion for woodworking and music at a young age. During his final years of high school, he began building musical instruments as a self-taught craftsman. In 2015, he enrolled at the Civica Scuola di Liuteria in Milan, where he specialized in plucked instruments and studied under the guidance of Lorenzo Lippi and Fabio Bonardi. He graduated in 2019 as a Master Luthier. Following his studies, he completed an apprenticeship with Aldo Illotta, further refining his skills in the construction of classical and acoustic guitars. In 2020, he established his own workshop in Galliate, focusing on building concert classical guitars and performing high-quality repairs on plucked instruments. In 2024, he made his debut as an exhibitor at the prestigious Roma Expo Guitars. Luca’s guitar-making philosophy is rooted in tradition and inspired by the great masters of the past, while remaining attentive to the needs of today’s performers. His meticulous selection of woods, precision in construction, and dedication to sound quality and playability have made his instruments increasingly sought after by discerning guitarists.About the guitar
The REG 2025 Limited Edition “Concerto No. 16” is a continuation of Luca Pollastro’s personal concert guitar model. It features a traditional seven-fan bracing system assembled with natural hide glue. The result is an instrument that delivers a dynamic, refined voice with strong projection, tonal clarity, and a warm, expressive character that blends traditional resonance with contemporary demands. For this model, Luca selected an Italian spruce top and Madagascar rosewood for the back and sides, both carefully chosen for their tonal properties and visual beauty. The neck is carved from Spanish cedar and paired with an African ebony fingerboard. A standout detail is the custom-carved headstock, which adds an elegant visual focal point to the instrument. The guitar is finished with a hand-applied French polish that enhances both the wood’s natural texture and the overall resonance. The binding and purfling elements reflect Luca’s refined taste for subtle ornamentation, bringing cohesion to the instrument’s visual identity. Every element, from construction to decoration, expresses the clarity of his vision and the maturity of his craft.
Otto Rauch is a German guitar maker from the small town of Obermoschel in Rheinland-Pfalz. With over 35 years of experience as a guitar maker, he is one of the German pioneers of double-top construction. After repairing a Matthias Dammann guitar in the early 1990s, Otto Rauch began building doubel-top guitars. At first, he used cedar struts and then a balsa core, a construction he continued to develop over the years. While helping a friend set up his violin making business, Otto Rauch came across the name of the 18th century Venetian violin maker Domenico Montagnana. His cellos are praised for their dark tone, fantastic sound volume and enigmatic construction. As these three attributes reflect Otto’s construction, he adopted the name, and the Domenico Montagnana model was born.
