Overview

This 2024 Jean-Noël Lebreton guitar (No. 47-197) exemplifies his refined approach to double-top construction. Built with a cedar soundboard and doubled Indian rosewood back and sides, it combines power with balance, offering projection without sacrificing nuance. The raised fingerboard provides effortless access to the upper register, making it particularly suitable for advanced repertoire. Tonally, it delivers firm, precise basses and rich trebles with a slightly gritty edge, resulting in a voice that is expressive and inspiring while remaining controlled and natural. A modern concert instrument that reflects Lebreton’s expertise in merging innovative design with musical sensitivity.

More details about the guitar

Jean-Noel Lebreton is a French luthier living near Avrillé in France. After successfully studying at the College of furniture in London from 1989 to 1993, he opened his first workshop in 1997. He has since specialized in double-top classical guitars, exploring the various possibilities offered by this sophisticated technique. Interestingly, he uses both Nomex core and balsa core techniques, mapping the resonant range of the top with one or the other to achieve a unique sound. This 2024 guitar, numbered 47-197, features a double top construction with a cedar top and Indian rosewood doubled back and sides. The raised fingerboard is helpful when playing in the upper registers of the fretboard. The rich and gritty treble, coupled with tight basses, make for a powerful instrument that is by no means overwhelming but very inspiring for the guitarist.
