About the Guitar Maker
Jean-Noël Lebreton is a French luthier based near Avrillé in France. After completing his studies at the College of Furniture in London from 1989 to 1993, he opened his first workshop in 1997. Since then, he has specialized in building double-top concert guitars and has explored the vast tonal possibilities that this sophisticated technique offers.
What makes Jean-Noël Lebreton particularly distinctive is his use of both Nomex-core and Balsa-core construction methods to fine-tune the resonance zones of the soundboard, achieving a unique and balanced tone. His instruments combine modern innovation with masterful craftsmanship, resulting in guitars known for their refined tonal depth and exceptional responsiveness.
This 2024 guitar (No. 47-197) exemplifies his work, featuring a double-top cedar soundboard and double back and sides made of Indian rosewood. The elevated fingerboard design facilitates easier playability in higher registers. Its powerful yet slightly textured trebles complement the clear and precise basses, producing an expressive and dynamic tone.
This guitar reflects Jean-Noël Lebreton’s artistic vision: to create instruments that inspire and delight with their sound quality, balance, and playability, without ever being overpowering. It stands as a testament to the elegance and precision of modern French guitar making.
