Hermann Hauser® II - 1970

Hermann Hauser® II - 1970

Overview

The Hermann Hauser ® dynasty is one of the oldest guitar-making families in the world, spanning over five generations and dating back to the second half of the XIX century. Josef Hauser ® (1854-1939) was a zither maker and virtuoso who passed on his enthusiasm for instrument making to his son, the famous Hermann Hauser ® I (1882-1952).

The son of Hermann Hauser ® I (1882-1952), Hermann Hauser ® II (1911-1988), worked in his father's workshop from 1930. In 1952 he took over the management of the workshop and led the company until 1983, establishing himself as one of the most important guitar makers of the 21st century. His instruments have a tonality all of their own, which has captivated a whole generation of guitarists with its agility, balance and complexity. Important guitarists such as Julian Bream (1933-2020) played Hermann Hauser ® II guitars.

This wonderful guitar with the number 869, built in 1970, is a very special instrument in many regards. The most striking aspect is the cedar top, which is an extreme rarity within the manufacture of Hermann Hauser II. One must imagine that at this time, the use of cedar was at its very beginning, and only some Spanish luthiers such as José Ramirez III have been popularizing it since 1965. It is therefore an absolute cutting-edge instrument. A second striking feature is its fantastic condition: this guitar genuinely looks as if it had been built yesterday. Only very few playing marks and a repaired hairline crack on the CITES-certified Brazilian rosewood back are to be declared. The voice of this guitar is just as unique as its remarkable openness and sonority. The long sustain, the intense, colourful highs and the overall impeccable balance make it a dream guitar and true highlight for both enthusiasts and professional guitarists.

  • Classical Guitar

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
