Walter Verreydt - 2024 Cedar "Friederich"

Walter Verreydt - 2024 Cedar "Friederich"

Overview

Walter Verreydt began his journey in guitar making in 1985, combining his expertise as a woodworking teacher with his deep love of music. His first guitar marked the start of a distinguished career as a luthier, and by 1988, he began teaching classical guitar making at the “Centrum voor Muziekinstrumentenbouw” in Puurs, Belgium. Verreydt’s craftsmanship has been profoundly influenced by studying the works of renowned luthiers such as Ignacio Fleta, Robert Bouchet, and Hernandez y Aguado. His close relationships with celebrated guitar makers Daniel Friederich and José Romanillos further shaped his philosophy and techniques, allowing him to develop a style that is uniquely his own. Handmade in the Spanish tradition, each of Verreydt’s guitars is a reflection of his ongoing study, meticulous attention to detail, and passion for creating instruments of the highest quality.

This 2024 Walter Verreydt guitar, a tribute to Daniel Friederich, is an extraordinary example of concert-level instrument making, embodying sophistication and refinement in every detail. Its exceptional sonority and responsiveness immediately set it apart, while its remarkable tonal palette offers an inspiring range of expressive possibilities. The trebles are particularly striking, characterized by a lively, free, and singing voice that resonates beautifully and effortlessly. Combined with a remarkable sustain across all registers, the guitar delivers both clarity and richness, making it a joy to play, and a versatile choice for a wide variety of repertoires. The excellent balance between registers ensures that every note is beautifully articulated, while its comfortable playability, makes it a joy to perform on for extended periods.

  • Classical Guitar

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
