Vicente Carrillo - 2024 Maestro NX Jacarandá (Gernot Wagner Supervised)

Overview

About the luthier

The Carrillo family began making guitars in 1744 in “Manchuela Conquense,” also known as Casasimarro. By the 19th century, the town had earned the nickname “El pueblo de las Guitarras” (the town of guitars). Today, the craft continues in the same place with Vicente Carrillo, the seventh generation of the family to carry on this tradition. Vicente was honored with the “Regional Craftsmanship Award” in 2009 and the “National Award” in 2010. His guitars are renowned for their distinctive sound, characterized by a compromise of defined basses and sweet trebles. Innovation is at the core of his workshop, where a variety of construction techniques are employed and continuously refined to elevate the art of guitar building. Notable artists who have played Vicente Carrillo’s guitars include Paco de Lucía, Tomatito, J.M. Cañizares, El Niño Josele, Rafael Cañizares, Javier Limón, Keith Richards, and Josemi Carmona (Ketama).

About the guitar

The Maestro NX model is the result of a collaboration between Vicente Carrillo and Gernot Wagner, one of the world’s leading guitar makers and a pioneer of the now well-established double-top guitar. As its name suggests, this model features a Nomex-honeycomb structure sandwiched between two cedar tops, delivering unparalleled resonance and projection. This special edition of the Maestro NX features back and sides crafted from beautifully grained Brazilian rosewood, which has ben aged for more than 50 years. One can easily appreciate the tight uniform grain and the deep hues of this rare wood.

The Maestro NX combines double-top construction with specially designed sides, resulting in an instrument that achieves incredible volume without sacrificing tonal compromise. Its wide dynamic range and ability to produce a spectrum of tonal colors make it a versatile choice for performers. This model is a testament to Vicente Carrillo’s innovative approach and dedication to pushing the boundaries of traditional guitar making while maintaining a commitment to exceptional craftsmanship.

  • Classical Guitar

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
