Toby Rzepka - 2024 64cm Lattice

Toby Rzepka - 2024 64cm Lattice

Overview

Toby Rzepka began his journey in guitar crafting over two decades ago in 2001, after studying under Walter Stanul at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. He further honed his skills with renowned U.S. luthier Stephan Connor before delving into the world of Baroque and Renaissance luthiery at West Dean College of Arts and Conservation in England. His dedication and talent were recognized in 2008 with a President’s Award and a Distinction. For Toby, classical guitar making is not a static tradition but a continuously evolving art. He believes that honoring the craft involves blending innovation with respect for the early masters, which he achieves by marrying contemporary sound design techniques with classical aesthetics.

The 2024 Toby Rzepka guitar exemplifies this philosophy, showcasing a seamless blend of tradition and modernity. At first glance, its classic body shape pays homage to time-honored design conventions. However, closer inspection reveals distinctive innovations, such as Toby’s lattice bracing. Unlike Australian luthiers who often employ thin tops and carbon-laden braces, Toby uses a sturdier top with no carbon enhancements, resulting in a unique instrument with a distinct tonal identity. Crafted with a spruce soundboard for sharp clarity and Indian rosewood for its rich, resonant tonal spectrum, this guitar delivers a pure, natural sound that resonates with clarity and balance. More than just an instrument, it stands as a testament to Toby’s craftsmanship, blending the legacy of guitar making with forward-thinking design to create a sound that is unmistakably Rzepka’s.

Toby Rzepka 2024 Classical Guitar Review

While this guitar is sold, these are ready for you

  • Classical Guitar

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
