Overview

About the luthier

Tobias Braun was born in Holzminden, Germany, in 1960. Shortly after, his family relocated to Perchtoldsdorf near Vienna, Austria. In 1983, he built his first concert guitar, marking the beginning of his journey as a luthier. A year later, he completed his first guitar-making course under the guidance of the renowned José Romanillos. This was followed by a second course in 1988 and a third in 1989, the same year Tobias earned his master’s certificate in Vienna. With a deep commitment to the traditional Spanish guitar-building school, Tobias Braun has dedicated much of his craft to creating instruments inspired by famous masters such as Santos Hernandez and Manuel Ramirez.

About the guitar

This exquisite guitar, crafted by Tobias Braun, is a testament to his exceptional artistry and his profound connection to the celebrated luthier José Romanillos. Drawing deeply from his admiration for Romanillos’s work, Braun has created an instrument that serves as a tribute to the legendary craftsman. The spruce soundboard is a focal point, delicately adorned with intricate details reminiscent of Romanillos’s characteristic designs, enhancing the guitar’s visual and acoustic appeal. This is further complemented by the stunning birdseye maple back and sides, which add elegance and a unique aesthetic to the instrument.

Sonically, this guitar offers a captivating interplay of tonal qualities. Its responsiveness is almost intuitive, delivering a quickness and directness that allows players to connect effortlessly with the instrument. Treble notes float with an ethereal, airy quality, lending a sense of lightness and elegance to the sound. The mid-range resonates with a rich tapestry of tonal colors, painting vivid soundscapes that inspire both the player and the listener. This dynamic balance between clarity and depth ensures that every note carries an emotional resonance, making the instrument equally suited for intimate settings and large venues.

This creation by Tobias Braun is not just an instrument; it is a gateway to exploring the depths of musical creativity, inspired by one of the most revered names in classical guitar history. With its masterful craftsmanship and homage to Romanillos, it stands as a remarkable piece for any musician seeking an instrument that combines tradition, artistry, and unparalleled sound quality.

  • Classical Guitar

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
