Tobias Braun - 2021 "Manuel Ramirez 1912"

Tobias Braun - 2021 "Manuel Ramirez 1912"

Overview

Tobias Braun was born in Holzminden, Germany in 1960. Shortly after, his family moved to Perchtoldsdorf near Vienna, Austria. In 1983 he built his first concert guitar and a year later he completed a course about guitar making taught by José Romanillos. A second course followed in 1988, and the third course in 1989. In the same year, he completed his master’s certificate in Vienna. Tobias Braun has dedicated himself to the traditional Spanish guitar building school. Many of his guitars are models of famous masters such as Santos Hernandez and Manuel Ramirez.

This guitar comes directly from the workshop of Tobias Braun and is strongly inspired by the guitar of Andrès Segovia, built in 1912 by Santos Hernandez for the workshop of Manuel Ramirez. One can see many beautiful reflections in the grain on this spruce, which in itself is a natural work of art. The back and sides are made of Indian rosewood and a fine maple inlay adorns the middle of the back. In addition, the rosette is decorated with green inlays. This same green colour can be found throughout the entire decoration of the guitar. An interesting detail is the very pronounced angle of the head, which is completely corresponding to the superior instruments from the famous Madrilenian workshop of Manuel Ramirez.

A wonderful charm and an enveloping warmth of sound emanate from this instrument. This reflects exactly the characteristics and the magic that is inherent in the early 20th century Madrilenian guitars, namely a deep, inspiring Spanish tone, whose elegant and complex melodic first string makes the guitar sing so beautifully. In addition, the basses sound warm and captivating and especially carrying, which gives this instrument an authentic character.

  • Classical Guitars

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
