Sylvain Balestrieri - 2018

Sylvain Balestrieri - 2018

Overview

Sylvain Balestrieri was inspired by the major guitar-makers of the twentieth century and in particular the French artistic lutherie tradition.
After having graduated in classical guitar performance, he travelled to Paris and studied two years at the “Ecole Normale de Paris”. Sylvain Balestrieri worked at some of the most iconic workshops in London such as Andy’s Guitar and Graham Noden and finally established his own workshop in Grenoble (FR) in 2008, where he focuses on a unique concert model and the restoration of antique instruments.
His approach to guitar building is inspired by the French guitar makers Robert Bouchet, Daniel Friederich and Dominique Field and follows the French lutherie tradition.
Dominique Field says about him:

« Sylvain Balestrieri's craftsmanship is one of the highest level and it is coupled with very tasteful artistry. »

Sylvain’s work is defined by his incredible patience and perfectionism. He focusses on a unique concert model, spending more than 200 working hours on each instrument.

This 2018 guitar, comes as a result of a solid and deep understanding of the art of guitar making and reflects his ideal of sound, aesthetics and playability. This instrument is designed to fill concert halls, projecting a rich direct sound pleasing the player as well as the audience. A 40 years dried ebony fingerboard is used as well as a first quality spruce top and thoroughly selected Indian rosewood back and sides. The rosette and marquetry details are tremendously fine, with only a few tenth of millimetre sized elements. One of the most remarkable part of his guitars is probably one of the subtlest: the perfectly even and clear French polish that seals the wood and gives these refined deep colours and reflects to the top, back and sides. Definitely an amazing concert instrument from a promising guitar maker who will surely mark a turn in the French guitar-making tradition.
The tuners are made by Sloane. A Hiscox Pro II case is included.

  • Classical Guitar

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
