Steven Toon - 2024 No. 115 Doubletop

Steven Toon - 2024 No. 115 Doubletop

Overview

Raised with a passion for intricate wooden flying scale model aircraft and playing the guitar, Steven Toon seemed destined for a career that blended these interests. Initially training as a cabinet maker, Steven further honed his skills at the London College of Furniture, where he specialized in Early Fretted Instrument construction. In the late 1970s, after college, he dabbled as a live sound technician before transitioning to the furniture industry, where he advanced to a manufacturing consultant. Despite his professional path, Steven's passion for crafting classical guitars flourished as a personal hobby. This hobby eventually evolved into a full-time profession in the early 2000s, focusing on constructing steel string and Jazz guitars, alongside meticulously handcrafted classical guitars, inspired by a repair project of a Hauser guitar. Today, Steven is renowned for his almost exclusive focus on classical guitars, expertly blending traditional craftsmanship with innovative designs. His work now includes the traditional spruce classical guitars influenced by Hauser II, and cedar front guitars inspired by Friedrich. Recently, Steven has delved into creating double top guitars, a concept pioneered by Matthias Dammann and Gernot Wagner, using Nomex to enhance both volume and sustain while retaining the warm tones of traditional guitars. His creations are a testament to his lifelong dedication to the fusion of woodworking skills and his love for music, characterized by a modern, simplistic elegance.

The 2024 Steven's double top model guitar is a state-of-the-art instrument, embodying exceptional craftsmanship and superior acoustic performance. This brand-new guitar boasts strong voices across its register, coupled with a remarkable volume that is sure to satisfy the demands of any concert player. Known for its amazing projection and ease of play, this guitar stands out in its ability to deliver power and clarity effortlessly. The trebles resonate with a warm and direct quality, perfectly complementing the crisp and clear basses. This combination of qualities makes the guitar not just an instrument, but a powerful tool for any guitarist seeking an instrument that excels in both power and projection. The exceptional craftsmanship further enhances its appeal, making it a top choice for musicians who value precision, quality, and outstanding performance in their instrument.

  • Classical guitar

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
