Richard Jacob Weissgerber - 1920

Richard Jacob Weissgerber - 1920

Overview

Richard Jacob Weissgerber 1877-1960 built about 3500 instruments of unique beauty and is considered one of the most remarkable guitar builders of the 20th century. He lived and worked in Markneukirchen. Like other local guitar builders, Richard Jacob initially sold his instruments to local distributors who labeled the guitars with their own labels before he abandoned this practice in the 1920s.
With this model, built in 1920 and bearing the handwritten number 20.37 inside, Richard Jacob was inspired by the instruments of Joachim Tielke 1641-1719. The body-shape and the 11-piece back are reminiscent of a baroque guitar. It is an elegant and wonderfully decorated guitar, in a very good restored condition. It can be played very well and has kept its authentic sound of long-gone days.

  • Classical Guitars

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
