Richard Jacob Weissgerber - 1932 "Simplicio"

Richard Jacob Weissgerber - 1932 "Simplicio"

Overview

Richard Jacob “Weissgerber” was one of the most creative, innovative, and certainly the most versatile guitar makers of the 20th century. Neither in Germany nor in the world has there been or is there any other master whose work, in its multiplicity, would be comparable to that of Richard Jacob. The variety of his models, their shapes, and designs are unique.

The beauty of this Simplicio concert model is impressive. It shows the typical carved head with ebony veneer and delicately chiselled floral pattern. Also the triple fan performance and back and sides in Brazilian rosewood (Pre-CITES) are very typical of this model and make it one of the most sought-after collector's items from Richard Jacob Weissgerber. The condition of this instrument is extraordinarily good. Only under the bridge there are two thin repaired cracks. These are absolutely typical for Weissgerber's guitars and have been perfectly restored. Otherwise this guitar is still in its original shape, the only modification being the double holes on the bridge to optimize the angle of the strings to the bridge.

The basses of these Weissgerber are impressive, full, warm and powerful in the low register and harmonize perfectly with the round and soulful trebles. The beauty of this instrument is reflected in the elegance of its timbre. It is very light and has a spontaneous tone, which has the characteristic sonority of Weissgerber guitars. The top made of German spruce responds very well, and the last ninety years of playing have given this guitar a powerful and colorful voice

  • Classical Guitars

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
