Richard Jacob Weissgerber – 1924 Viennese Grand Concert
Richard Jacob Weissgerber – 1924 Viennese Grand Concert
Overview
Overview
Richard Jacob “Weissgerber” was one of the most creative, innovative, and certainly the most versatile guitar makers of the 20th century. Neither in Germany nor in the world has there been or is there any other master whose work, in its multiplicity, would be comparable to that of Richard Jacob. The variety of his models, shapes, and designs are unique.
Built in 1924 and bearing the number 26 3./8, this guitar displays a unique design with a thin maple body, strongly arched back, wide Viennese plantilla, and of course, a fantastic carved head. This design, called in German "Großes Wiener Konzert-Modell", still has a fair share of Spanish influence with a three-fan bracing and a Spanish-style bridge as we know it today. It is important to note that these features are cutting-edge designs for a 1924 Germany-made guitar. To round off the exciting picture of this fascinating historical piece, it features a checkerboard rosette, the most sought-after of Weissgerber's ornaments.
This extremely rare Viennese Grand Concert Model by Richard Jacob Weissgerber is one of the best-sounding guitars we know from him. The treble strings' responsiveness, sustain, and brilliance are unbelievable and unprecedented on such a century-old instrument. Overall this guitar's presence and volume are striking, and the playability is perfect. With only three skillfully repaired cracks on the top and almost no playing marks, this guitar is a true gem of history and sound.

Classical Guitars
The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.Look all products of the collection -
