Raoul Aldrovandi – 2024 No. 6 "Luna"

Overview

Raoul Adrovandi embarked on his journey after high school, initially enrolling in an engineering university, though he quickly realized it wasn't his calling. He spent several years studying engineering but ultimately decided to leave, finding solace during this tumultuous period in his long-standing passion for woodworking. Raoul dedicated himself to mastering traditional and artistic woodworking techniques, such as carving, sculpting, and turning, while also working as a carpenter. His life took a transformative turn when he attended a classical guitar concert, which deeply resonated with him and ignited a passion for the instrument. Inspired, he began playing the guitar and soon decided to combine his newfound interest with his skill in woodworking by crafting his own guitars. After completing Pablo Requena's guitar making course, he achieved commendable results in building instruments, further fueled by his engineering background which lent him a scientific approach to understanding the mechanics of guitars. Influenced significantly by the writings of Mario Garrone, Giuseppe Cuzzucoli, and Trevor Gore, Raoul began designing his own guitars, focusing on how each component functions. Positive feedback from various guitarists encouraged him to professionalize his craft, leading him to pursue guitar making as a full-time career.

Raoul Adrovandi's guitars beautifully encapsulate the harmonious balance between traditional craftsmanship and scientific precision. His approach to guitar making is meticulous, with a keen focus on optimizing every element for efficiency. Adrovandi considers the density and stiffness of materials crucial, carefully measuring frequencies and documenting his findings to ensure the acoustic quality of each instrument. Despite this analytical approach, he places significant value on intuition, ensuring that his craftsmanship transcends numerical analysis. This guitar showcases a 7 fan bracing system, uniquely his own design, where he has thoughtfully redesigned the shape of the fan, the harmonic bars, and the soundhole reinforcement. Additionally, this guitar features clear and round trebles with deep basses, attributed to its F/F# main resonance, making it not only resonant and expressive but also a great concert instrument at an attractive price point. Another interesting feature of this model is the brass nut, which contributes to the distinct tonal quality of the guitar.

  • Classical Guitar

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
