Philip Woodfield - 2013 Grand Concert No. 335

Philip Woodfield - 2013 Grand Concert No. 335

Overview

Philip Woodfield is a UK based luthier who since over 30 years produces guitars that have clarity, sustain and good separation of notes. Their sound is pure and sweet with a lot of volume. Since he also is an excellent guitarist, he realizes how important it is for a guitar player to have an instrument that is expressive and has an extensive tonal palette. Woodfield’s guitars are rare to come by and his waiting list for a new instrument is currently around five years.

This wonderful 2013 guitar called "Morgaine" is a Grand Concert model by Philipp Woodfield. It is lattice braced, with a highly responsive spruce soundboard and Macassar Ebony back and sides. This color-rich wood is particularly dense and reflects the soundwaves remarkably efficiently towards the audience, making for a projecting and powerful guitar. The overall condition of this instrument is great. It was played intensively, and only some superficial playing marks can be seen on the surface, along with slight alterations of the varnish. Finally, this guitar is fitted with first quality and not so often seen Baljak tuners.

This guitar's volume, colors, and ease of playing are striking. Woodfield's reputation is long established with remarkable guitarists such as Marcin Dylla, the Kupinski Guitar Duo, and Scott Tennant, to name only a few, playing his guitars. With such a powerful, balanced, and singing character, it is one of the best in its category.

While this guitar is sold, these are ready for you

  • Classical Guitar

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
