Overview

The Oren Myers “Ancient Greece” is a one-of-a-kind concert guitar created exclusively for Siccas Guitars and represents the 140th instrument from his workshop. Inspired by the symmetry and motifs of classical Greek art, it features a rosette and headstock adorned with finely bent wooden arches and a striking fish-scale marquetry on the back. Built with a spruce soundboard and 5,000-year-old bog oak for back and sides, it combines rare visual character with impressive tonal depth. Myers’ seven-fan bracing supports a sound that is warm, balanced, and clear, with a slightly brighter edge and quick response. Projection, note separation, and playability are all outstanding, making this guitar both an artistic statement and a refined concert instrument.

About the luthier

Oren Myers builds guitars firmly rooted in the traditional Spanish school, yet his approach resists replication of any singular historical model. Instead, he develops each instrument as a unique piece, adjusting the construction parameters based on the individual character of the tonewoods used. This includes precise tailoring of component thicknesses to match acoustic behavior. His plantilla is a personal design, and all decorative elements, from rosette to purfling, are original works conceived and executed by the maker himself.

About the guitar

Commissioned exclusively by Siccas Guitars, this instrument titled Ancient Greece is the 140th guitar crafted by Oren Myers. Visually and conceptually, it is a tribute to the symmetry and elegance of classical Greek design, with its ornamental features inspired by motifs found on ancient pottery. The rosette and headstock incorporate finely bent wooden arches, reflecting the “tongue” motifs seen in Hellenic vases, while the back showcases an intricate fish-scale marquetry pattern. The guitar’s back and sides are made of 5,000-year-old bog oak, a rare subfossil material that not only adds visual contrast with its dark tone but also contributes surprising tonal depth. The soundboard is made from high-quality spruce, paired with Myers’ traditional bracing system consisting of seven fan struts and two closing bars. The result is a voice that retains his signature tonal balance and warmth while offering a slightly brighter, quicker response reminiscent of maple. The guitar exhibits excellent projection, crisp clarity across registers, and remarkable separation, particularly in complex harmonic textures. Its tactile comfort and overall responsiveness make it a standout in Myers’ already distinctive body of work.

  • Classical Guitar

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
