Nils Schebesta - 2025 No. 39 - Doubletop

Overview

About the luthier

Nils Schebesta is a rising figure among the new generation of German luthiers. His journey in instrument making began over a decade ago with a formal apprenticeship, followed by studies in the renowned instrument-making town of Markneukirchen. He further refined his craft through internships and collaborations with established makers, gaining experience across both the guitar and violin-making disciplines. Before opening his own workshop in Leipzig in early 2019, he spent several years working in a violin-making studio, which helped him develop a keen eye for detail and acoustic finesse. Today, his work draws from both German and French lutherie traditions, combining structural clarity with tonal elegance.

About the guitar

This 2025 Doubletop No. 39 by Nils Schebesta is a masterfully built instrument that highlights his maturing voice as a luthier. Featuring a cedar top paired with premium Madagascar rosewood back and sides, the guitar blends classic tonewood choices with a modern double-top construction to achieve remarkable sonic efficiency and projection. The instrument's air body resonance is tuned between F and F sharp, supporting a responsive and open tonal character, especially in the lower register.

The guitar's basses are round and well anchored, while the trebles maintain both brilliance and warmth across dynamic ranges. Each note speaks quickly, yet with a rich sustain and nuanced tonal color. The French polish finish enhances the liveliness of the top, and Kris Barnett tuners provide excellent mechanical precision.

Particularly noteworthy is the guitar’s extremely low weight of just 1290 grams, which contributes to its tactile lightness and immediacy of response. Combined with its tonal richness and balanced projection, this feature makes it exceptionally appealing for professional performers who value comfort without compromise.

This Guitar Maker Is Elite, and Few People Know Him...

While this one is sold, these are ready for you

  • Classical Guitar

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
