After graduating from Sophia University with an electrical engineering degree, Sakurai joined the family business, "Kohno Guitar Manufacturing," to carry on the legacy and hone his skills.

Over the years, Sakurai's hard work and dedication paid off as he established himself as a master of the craft. In 1988, he won the prestigious first prize at the fourth international Paris Guitar Making Competition, cementing his reputation as a world-class guitar maker. His guitars are sought after by musicians and collectors alike, who appreciate his instruments' impeccable craftsmanship and exceptional sound quality.

One of Sakurai's most famous creations is the Maestro model, the highest in the Sakurai-Kohno series. With a scale of 65 cm and featuring Madagascar rosewood back and sides and a cedar top, this model embodies the traditions of the Kohno family and is made with the finest materials, resulting in a guitar that is both visually stunning and a joy to play.
