Masaki Sakurai - 2021 P.C. Maestro-18 Ki Ju 64 cm Limited Collector's Edition

Overview

Masaki Sakurai, a renowned Japanese guitar maker, is known for his exceptional craftsmanship and his contribution to the field of guitar making. He inherited his passion for guitar making from his uncle Masaru Kohno, who was one of the most respected guitar makers of his
Sakurai started his career in the field of electrical engineering, but after graduating from Sophia University in 1967, he joined the family business "Kohno Guitar Manufacturing" to continue the legacy of his uncle. Over the years, he honed his skills and became a master of the craft.
In 1988, he won the prestigious first prize at the fourth international Paris Guitar Making Competition, which cemented his reputation as a world-class guitar maker. His guitars are highly sought after by musicians and collectors alike due to their impeccable craftsmanship and exceptional sound quality.

This magnificent guitar is a Masaki Sakurai P.C. Maestro-18 Ki Ju 64 cm guitar, a limited edition masterpiece commemorating the luthier's 77th anniversary. Each of the 77 petals of Sakura, elegantly inlaid in mother-of-pearl and engraved on the tuners, symbolizes a year of his life. The 77th anniversary occurred in 2021, which is why this brand-new guitar has a 2021 label on it. This collectible piece is no longer in production. The design of this guitar is an exact replica of the winning instrument at the 1988 International Guitar Making Competition in Paris, exemplifying Sakurai's unrivaled expertise. Boasting the finest woods, a complex bracing pattern, and a rich sound, it delivers bold trebles, resonant basses, and expressive middle voices that meet the highest expectations of discerning guitarists. This collectible guitar carries a superficial crack just above the rosette, a minor imperfection acquired after its completion. Nearly invisible, this surface flaw does not compromise the guitar's sound quality and, considering its presence, the instrument is priced accordingly. This model offers not just a musical instrument, but a piece of history intertwined with the legacy of Masaki Sakurai.

  • Classical Guitars

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
