About the luthier
Manuel Reyes was born in Jayena (Granada) on July 18, 1934, and began playing flamenco guitar at a young age. It was only a short time later that he restored his first old flamenco guitars and taught himself the basics of guitar making. Soon after, he built his first guitar himself and since the result was not satisfactory for his needs, he decided to look for someone who could teach him how to build a guitar. He met the flamenco guitar maker Joaquín Sanchez Galisteo, who was willing to teach Reyes. In 1949, Manuel Reyes finally decided to open his own workshop, beginning a career that would bring him to the pinnacle of flamenco guitar makers. Today, Manuel Reyes is one of the most respected flamenco guitar makers, admired for his excellent craftsmanship and the typical Andalusian flamenco sound of his world-class instruments.
About the guitar
This instrument is truly the holy grail of flamenco guitars. Built by one of the most respected luthiers in the world, it stands as an outstanding example of Manuel Reyes’ legendary craftsmanship. The guitar is highly responsive, yet maintains a round, percussive, and clear sound all at once.
It is remarkably lightweight at only 1,360 grams, enhancing both comfort and projection. While traditionally designed for flamenco, this instrument is so versatile that it can easily adapt to a wide range of musical styles—including world music and even classical. It's incredibly addictive to play, and once in hand, it's hard to put down.
The trebles, though percussive, are never harsh; instead, they offer charm and rich character.
Condition
As a pre-loved instrument, the guitar is in very good condition. It features only a small, superficial hairline crack above the sixth string, likely due to the thumb alzapúa technique. This is purely a cosmetic issue and does not affect the sound or structure. Aside from that, the guitar is in excellent overall condition.
