Liuteria Guarnieri – 2024 REG 2024 Limited Edition

Overview

Alessio and Marta Guarnieri are a dynamic duo in the world of lutherie, having founded Liuteria Guarnieri in 2014. Their collaboration is a fusion of art, music, and craftsmanship, bringing together their diverse backgrounds with a shared destiny in music. Alessio has nurtured his passion for music from a young age, while Marta has honed her artistic sensitivity and attention to detail through her studies in art, drawing, and sculpture. Their paths crossed at the Civic School of Lutherie in Milan, where they discovered a perfect harmony of skills and passions. This meeting marked the beginning of their joint venture, creating musical instruments that not only produce beautiful sounds but also tell stories and forge deep connections between musicians and their audiences.

During their four-year tenure at the school, they were mentored by master luthiers such as Tiziano Rizzi, Lorenzo Lippi, Federico Gabrielli, Filippo Lesca, and Silvia Zanchi. Both completed internships, with Alessio at Mirko Borghino's workshop and Marta at Federico Gabrielli's. They also attended seminars with internationally renowned luthiers including John Monteleone, Roy McAlister, Jean Larrivée, Kevin Ryan, Rick Davis, Cat Fox, and Richard Hoover, further enriching their expertise. Each instrument they craft is a testament to their dedication to perfection in craftsmanship, meticulous attention to detail, and the relentless pursuit of superior sound quality. Committed to understanding and integrating the needs and preferences of musicians, Alessio and Marta work closely with their clients to create personalized instruments that reflect the musician's unique personality and style. Their love for all forms of music continually inspires their creations, which range from classical guitars to steel strings and even ukuleles. In recognition of their outstanding craftsmanship, Liuteria Guarnieri was awarded the Artisan Excellence label by the Piedmont Region in May 2016.

The Limited Edition guitar for the Roma Expo Guitar 2024 showcases exquisite craftsmanship and material selection, beginning with an Italian spruce soundboard renowned for its acoustic properties. The sides of the guitar are innovatively constructed from laminated layers of flamed maple and Indian rosewood, the same woods used for the back, bridge, and headstock overlay. This lamination technique enhances the guitar's structural integrity, providing exceptional rigidity and a substantial mass differential from the soundboard. This design ensures the soundboard functions optimally, resonating freely to produce a rich, clear sound.

In terms of construction and aesthetics, the guitar features a mahogany neck reinforced with two carbon fiber bars, adding strength and stability while maintaining a lightweight profile. The ebony fingerboard is accented with white binding that elegantly extends to the headstock. Additionally, the ebony binding on the soundboard and back includes intricate black and white purfling that complements an ornate inlay on the back, reminiscent of decorative patterns found on 19th-century guitar soundboards. The design motifs are carried through to the small brass circles at the ends of the white volutes and the diamond-shaped flowers in the rosette, as well as in the volutes on the bridge's wings. Finished with a glossy polyacrylic varnish and equipped with high-quality Gotoh tuners made of carbon fiber, the guitar not only pays homage to traditional fan bracing but also incorporates modern elements that enhance performance without compromising its classic aesthetic.

  • Classical Guitar

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
