Leonard Plattner - 2017

Leonard Plattner - 2017

Overview

Leonard Plattner is an interesting figure of contemporary Spanish guitar making. He is the successor of Arcangel Fernandez, who himself was one of the direct heirs of the Madrid tradition of guitar making and successors of the philosophies of Santos Hernandez and Marcello Barbero. Leonard truly learned at fantastic places as his first master is no other than the very respected Geneva luthier Jacques Vincenti. There, he could approach many historical instruments and get a deep sense of quality craftsmanship and tone.

This classical guitar is a perfect example of Leonard Plattner's rich legacy. Made in 2017 and featuring cypress back and sides, it is highly responsive and playful. It is important to note that this instrument is built like a classical guitar and not a flamenco guitar. Therefore, it displays a bold and explosive character yet with great sustain, elegance, and charm. With only scarce playing marks, this second-hand guitar is in excellent condition. It is recognizable for its enchanting fragrance diffused by the cypress and is, in our opinion, a real gem from a highly skilled luthier still very much under the radar.

  • Classical Guitar

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
