Overview
Kolya Panhuyzen built his first guitar in 1967 in the workshop of his uncle Edgar Mönch who was a very important luthier. His guitars were played by John Williams and Julian Bream. In 1971 Mönch returned to Germany from Canada and Kolya started to work in his uncle’s workshop. Three years later, in 1974, Kolya opened his first workshop and then a second in 1992 in Toronto (Canada). He has now built over 400 guitars and his guitars have been played by successful guitarists such as Julian Bream and John Williams. His work is also admired by worldwide known guitarists like: Carlo Domeniconi, Hubert Käppel, Sonja Prunnbauer, Zoran Dukic, Jury Clormann, Dale Kavanagh.
This classical concert guitar has fine-grained Indian Rosewood back and sides and quarter saw spruce top. Its elevated fingerboard offers a lot of comfort for the left hand in the treble and enhances the angle of traction of the strings on the top. This modern lutherie aspect is a real gain for the performer and feats subtly in the guitar’s general aesthetic. The top is in very good condition, the varnish at the part of the back and sides touching the body is very lightly blurred. It is a great looking guitar ready to be played.
This guitar is a real pleasure to play, a wide and opened sound is projected out of the sound hole, filling a room without effort. The basses are very strong and direct and the treble excites the whole instrument producing a strong sympathetic medium around the clear note. It is the kind of instrument that gives a great feedback to the performer. For a traditional guitar player who likes to add some punch in his playing, this modern concert guitar is a precious catch. The tuners are made by Baljak. A Hiscox Pro II case is included.
