José Salinas - 2024 Spruce
Overview
Overview
José Salinas' journey into guitar making is deeply rooted in his early exposure to both flamenco and woodworking. His father, a cabinetmaker, inspired in him a love for working with wood, and José spent seven years learning the craft in his father’s workshop in Almería. This passion for wood combined with his deep connection to flamenco music, developed through his career as a “cantaor” (flamenco singer), led him to fall in love with the guitar as the perfect union of his two passions: music and craftsmanship. During a tour in the U.S., he was inspired by luthier Arcadio Marín to pursue guitar making, prompting him to study the traditional methods of guitar construction. In 2014, he opened his own workshop in Málaga, where he now builds handcrafted Spanish guitars. José draws on his intimate knowledge of flamenco sound and his skills in woodworking to carefully select materials and create instruments that reflect the essence of Spanish guitars. His workshop, located in Málaga, is a reflection of his dedication to producing guitars that combine beautiful woods, at the service of tone, with the soul of Spanish tradition.
This brand-new guitar features a spruce top and Indian rosewood back and sides, with an excellent finish and elegant adornments. Its sound is characterized by a direct tone, vibrant overtones, and a quick attack. The PU finish provides an extra layer of protection, allowing the guitar to endure powerful rasgueados, alzapúas, and various percussive techniques without compromising its aesthetic appeal.
