The Ramirez dynasty is one of the oldest and most renowned in the history of the classical guitar. Its origins date back to José Ramirez I (1858-1923) in 1882 and span five generations of luthiers. The Madrid-based workshop was highly influential and its legacy in relation to the classical guitar is undisputed. However, José Ramirez I not only passed on his skills and passion to his family members, but also taught a considerable number of at the time talented and now famous guitar makers such as Enrique Garcia, Julian Gomez Ramirez, Antonio Pascual Viudes and possibly his brother Manuel Ramirez.
This remarkable 1909 guitar by the legendary Jose Ramirez I is a true masterpiece, showcasing over a century of craftsmanship and musical history. Despite being 115 years old, the guitar remains in outstanding condition, with only minor signs of aging, including a small crack, an opening on the binding due to expanded bracing, and a thin crack on the bridge. Impressively, the soundboard remains crack-free, preserving the integrity of the instrument. This rare and highly collectible piece offers an intimate sound and playing experience, with a smooth tonal palette that transports musicians back in time. The guitar serves as a musical time machine, blending history with a timeless, nostalgic sound.
