Johann Gottlob Thielemann - 1811

Johann Gottlob Thielemann - 1811

Overview

Johann Gottlob Thielemann was born around 1765 and died in 1821. He was the most important guitar builder in Berlin. His guitars are fine build instruments with impressive sound. Thielemann often used dark colored woods, like in this case, dark colored pear wood for back and sides. The top is made of fine spruce. Typical for Thielemann’s style is also the broad rosette that is also made of pear wood. For the neck he used alder. This guitar was built in 1811 and is labeled on the ground of the back. The pegs were replaced, but are made in the same style of other Thielemann guitars. The mother of pearl inlays on the fretboard are also not original and were added probably at the beginning of the 20th century. The overall condition is remarkable for an instrument that is now over 200 years old.

  • Classical Guitars

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
