Jialan Chen - 2024 Coclea Thucea “Fibonacci” 64 cm

Overview

Jialan Chen, a distinguished luthier since 2013, initially specialized in crafting Torres style guitars, before expanding his repertoire in 2018 with the Bouchet model and his innovative “Impressionism model.” His profound understanding of music and guitar performance art is reflected in the high-level sound aesthetics of his creations. His career took a significant leap forward in 2014 when he met and learned from renowned guitarmakers Andrea Tacchi and Paolo Coriani in Italy, gaining invaluable insights and skills. This experience, coupled with his study and documentation of historical guitars in Europe, has profoundly enriched his craftsmanship. Renowned for their sophisticated materials, exceptional sound quality, and elegant design, Jialan’s guitars are highly esteemed worldwide, with notable musicians like Swedish guitarist Per-Olov Kindgren favoring his Bouchet model since 2018.

This guitar, crafted by Jialan, is a breathtaking Hommage to maestro Andrea Tacchi of Florence, the original creator of the Coclea Thucea design. As a dedicated pupil of Tacchi, Jialan has not only received permission to recreate this distinguished design but also possesses a deep understanding of its underlying concepts. Jialan’s commitment to this craft is evident in the countless hours spent meticulously re-creating the complex rosette and embellishing the guitar, which includes the addition of pure gold elements in the rosette and tie block. This attention to detail not only enhances the luxury aesthetic of the instrument but also underscores the exceptional craftsmanship that Jialan brings to each guitar.

Acoustically, this instrument embodies the spirit and characteristic sound of the Coclea Thucea design. Its back and sides are reinforced with mahogany, a choice that not only increases the structural stability of the guitar but also significantly enhances its sound projection. The trebles are smooth and rounded, offering great clarity, while the overall volume of the guitar is remarkable. Designed for the concert stage, this guitar delivers on every aspect expected of a high-caliber instrument, making it a true gem for both performers and collectors alike.

  • Classical Guitar

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
