Heikki Rousu - 2024 No. 451 10-String

Heikki Rousu - 2024 No. 451 10-String

Overview

This exciting guitar was built by the Swedish luthier Heikki Rousu. Heikki has been building guitars since 1990 and has now crafted more than 300 instruments. This particular instrument is an eleven-string guitar, also known as the alto or Bolin. The Swedish luthier Georg Bolin developed this extended-range classical guitar in the 1960s, and it has been primarily popularized by guitarists Per-Olof Johnson and Göran Söllscher.

The Heikki Rousu No. 451, crafted in 2024, is a 10-string guitar that draws inspiration from the traditional Torres 11-string guitars. This model features six strings on the fingerboard and offers the possibility of various tunings, with the bass strings defaulting to 7D, 8C, 9B, 10A. The design incorporates Wittner mechanical pegs for reliable tuning. The construction uses a spruce soundboard and combines maple and Madagascar rosewood for the back and sides, chosen for their acoustic properties. This guitar is suited for musicians looking for an instrument that offers both a rich sound and the flexibility of different tuning options, reflecting a blend of traditional craftsmanship and modern innovation.

  • Classical Guitars

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
