Giovanni Tacchi - 2023 Spruce / Flamed Maple

Giovanni Tacchi - 2023 Spruce / Flamed Maple

Overview

About the luthier

Giovanni Tacchi is the son of the renowned Florentine luthier Andrea Tacchi. Having grown up in a workshop steeped in the traditions of classical guitar making, Giovanni inherited not only the techniques but also the artistic sensibility of his father. Andrea Tacchi collaborated closely with Robert Bouchet and Daniel Friederich in the 1980s and continued to deepen his craft through exchanges with Ignacio Fleta, José Luis Romanillos, and Robert Ruck. Giovanni has refined this legacy through his own vision and precision, producing instruments of great tonal complexity and craftsmanship.

Giovanni Tacchi’s guitars display a clear identity: rich in color, dynamic in expression, and beautifully constructed. The attention to detail is striking, from the elegant rosettes to the refined joinery and wood selection. Though still early in his independent career, Giovanni has already established himself among the most promising young luthiers in Europe. His instruments reflect not only his heritage but also a distinct and confident voice in contemporary guitar making.

About the guitar

This 2023 guitar by Giovanni Tacchi is based on a Torres-inspired design and showcases the luthier’s remarkable maturity in both tone and construction. The spruce soundboard is finely tuned to produce a warm, golden tone reminiscent of early Spanish guitars, while the flamed maple back and sides lend a unique visual and tonal character—bright, focused, and elegant in response.

Tonally, this guitar emphasizes a strong fundamental with excellent clarity and purity. The separation between registers is clear, offering a pleasing balance between the singing trebles and resonant basses. This old-world charm is supported by modern features that enhance performance, such as a 12-hole tie block, a comfortable neck profile, and a 650 mm scale for modern playability. The maple strip in the headstock veneer is a tasteful detail that adds to the guitar’s refined aesthetic.

The instrument is finished entirely in traditional French polish, preserving the acoustic liveliness of the spruce and maple while offering a soft sheen that enhances the natural beauty of the tonewoods. With a weight of just 1300 grams, it remains light and resonant, ideal for players seeking a refined and historically rooted instrument suited for both stage and studio.

  • Classical Guitar

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
