About the luthier
Gerhard Oldiges started to build guitars in the late seventies while studying and after graduating he completed a two-year apprenticeship as a guitar maker. After that, he first worked in a guitar repair workshop and took part in a guitar making course given by José Romanillos in 1988, with whom he is still friends today and whose courses he has regularly attended since 1996. Gerhard Oldiges is intensively engaged in the history of Spanish guitar building. Thus a special focus of his work is the replication of old Spanish master instruments by Antonio de Torres, Vicente Arias, Manuel Ramírez and others./p>
About the guitar
Crafted in 2023, "Josefina" is a brand-new guitar that never left Gerhard’s workshop, making it a rare and pristine instrument. For the back and sides, Gerhard selected Brazilian rosewood, renowned for its tight, dark grain and increasing rarity in today’s market, which significantly enhances the guitar’s aesthetic and financial value. This guitar offers a perfect balance of tone and richness, with a powerful, clear voice that captivates the listener. The instrument’s lightweight construction, particularly in the top, ensures exceptional responsiveness, providing a gentle and comfortable playing experience. The thin neck design facilitates challenging chord spreads and barrés, further enhancing playability. Additionally, the first string sings beautifully, an essential characteristic for the classical guitar repertoire, while the instrument maintains an extraordinary balance of timbre and sustain, making it an exceptional choice for discerning musicians.
