Overview

About the luthier

Enrique Sanfeliu (1882, Valencia, Spain) discovered his passion for guitar making as a child, crafting small "toy" guitars for his friends. Inspired by a concert by Francisco Tárrega, he devoted his life to the guitar as both a player and a luthier. Sanfeliu honed his craft in the workshop of Juan Estruch and formed a close friendship with Enrique Garcia, from whom he gained valuable insights into lutherie. His instruments reflect the stylistic influence of Garcia and his esteemed protégé, Francisco Simplicio, featuring ornate marquetry and intricately carved headstocks. Renowned for their exquisite, old-world sound, Sanfeliu’s guitars remain cherished for their unique blend of tradition and artistry.

About the guitar

This 1921 classical guitar is a remarkable piece of guitar history, representing the renowned Barcelona School of Guitar. Originally built with a tailpiece, it was later modified to a traditional bridge system, leaving visible patches on the soundboard from this adjustment. Despite its age, the guitar is in good condition. The top features several repaired cracks, while the sides and back each have one repaired crack. All repairs have been expertly done, ensuring the stability of the instrument, which is fully ready to play. Tonally, it boasts a strong fundamental bass and brilliant, singing trebles reminiscent of the legendary Santos Hernández guitars. This instrument is not only a beautiful work of art with significant historical value but also a superb musical tool for discerning players.

  • Classical Guitar

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
