Dennis Tolz - 2021 Doubletop

Dennis Tolz - 2021 Doubletop

Overview

About the luthier

Dennis Tolz is part of a new generation of German luthiers who have redefined classical guitar construction through precision, acoustic research, and a deep respect for traditional aesthetics. Based in Kiel, Dennis has gained international recognition for his innovative double-top guitars, which are celebrated for their remarkable dynamic range, projection, and responsiveness. Drawing on his background in both engineering and traditional lutherie, he has developed a refined approach that emphasizes structural efficiency without compromising tonal beauty. His guitars are known for their powerful sound, elegant design, and effortless playability, making them highly sought-after by professional concert guitarists around the world.

About the guitar

This 2021 Dennis Tolz guitar features a modern double-top construction with a spruce outer layer and Nomex core, paired with Indian rosewood back and sides. A key innovation in this instrument is Tolz’s proprietary WaveGuide, a precisely engineered internal feature designed to lower the main air resonance below E (82 Hz) without reducing its efficiency. Unlike a traditional tornavoz, which can dampen resonance, the WaveGuide minimizes turbulence around the soundhole, enhancing fundamental frequencies and deepening the tonal character of the guitar.

The result is a highly responsive, well-balanced instrument with a wide dynamic range, capable of delivering rich overtones and expressive depth across all registers, a true synthesis of acoustic research and refined lutherie. With its exceptional projection, clarity, and effortless playability, this guitar stands out as a compelling tool for both recording and concert performance.

  • Classical Guitar

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
