Daniel Friederich - 1985 No. 608

Daniel Friederich - 1985 No. 608

Overview

Daniel Friederich was born on the sixteenth of January 1932. Although he had a strong desire to play the guitar, he lacked money. But at the age of 23, Friederich solved this dilemma by building his first guitar himself: a copy of a Simplicio guitar. Daniel’s guitar teacher and excellent guitar maker, Christian Aubin, was a great help to him. After building tools and gaining some experience in guitar making, Daniel Friederich showed his fifteenth guitar to Robert Bouchet. Since then, Robert Bouchet has inspired his work, and Daniel Friederich has personally developed some of R. Bouchet’s ideas throughout his career.

For decades, Daniel Friederich was one of the most important and respected active luthiers in the world. After a long and successful career, he stopped making guitars in 2015 and sold all his tools. Today, he is undoubtedly one of the most respected and admired guitar makers in history.
This incredible concert guitar was built in 1985 and wears the number 1985. End of the 1980s Daniel Friederich guitars and notably 600+ numbered instruments are praised internationally amongst professional guitarists for their sound. Many artists argue that these instruments are the best sounding of Daniel Friederich's career. In the cedar-top category of his production, this very guitar is definitely amongst the most impressive. Relatively lightly built, yet with double sides and an outstandingly responsive cedar soundboard, this instrument develops a volume, sound colors, and dynamics that are absolutely mindblowing.

The condition of this guitar is fantastic as it has no cracks at all. Only the varnish shows playing marks and some areas where it had to be refilled due to the contact with the guitarist's body. Nevertheless, besides this fantastic patina, this instrument is in first-class shape. Interestingly, this guitar is a single-owner instrument with all original documents from Daniel Friederich. The previous owner was a professional guitarist who played this guitar throughout his entire career. Hence, it sounds fully open, and what a sound!

  • Classical Guitar

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
