Carsten Kobs – 2020 Premium ex Aniello Desiderio

Carsten Kobs – 2020 Premium ex Aniello Desiderio

Overview

Carsten Kobs is a well-established German luthier based in Hamburg, Germany. He is one of the pioneers of double-top construction and thus one of the first generations of German luthiers to adopt this innovative building technique. His double-top guitars are known for their distinct lightness, responsiveness, and volume. The list of guitarists playing his instruments is impressive, including Manuel Barrueco, David Russel, and Aniello Desiderio. With a long and ever-growing waiting list, Kobs guitars are rarely available, which is why we are especially pleased to present his latest guitar.

This outstanding guitar by Carsten Kobs was Aniello Desiderio's personal instrument, which he swapped for another and new guitar by Carsten Kobs, as is typical for him to do every two years. It was regularly played by him and was of course also used in concerts until recently.

Casten Kobs chose the finest timbers for this exceptional instrument: an elegant and fine top made of dark cedar and back and sides of premium CITES-certified Brazilian rosewood. Inside there is a handwritten dedication from Carsten Kobs to Aniello Desiderio on the top. This double top is in excellent condition with only a few playing marks and two for Brazilian rosewood typical small cracks on the back, which were repaired by Carsten Kobs himself shortly after its completion.

It perfectly embodies the best of Kobs' double-top concept with a powerful and highly expressive sound character, as well as a very lyrical and warm tone. It is astonishing how well the guitar responds to subtle dynamic changes and how effortlessly and lightly it plays throughout.

  • Classical Guitars

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
