Antonio Raya Ferrer - 2025 No. 249 ON HOLD

Overview

About the luthier

Antonio Raya Ferrer was born in Granada in 1980 into one of the city’s most distinguished guitar-making dynasties. He began his training at the age of 16 under the guidance of his father, Antonio Raya Pardo, a renowned figure in Spanish lutherie. On his mother’s side, he descends from the legendary Ferrer family, his grandfather Eduardo Ferrer and great-grandfather Benito Ferrer being key figures in the history of the Spanish guitar. Benito Ferrer, notably, built the first guitar for Andrés Segovia.

Working from his father’s workshop in the heart of Granada, Antonio Raya Ferrer has established himself as a skilled and precise craftsman, known for guitars that combine power, elegance, and clarity. His instruments reflect the depth of his heritage while showing his own personality in design and sound. Antonio is known for his meticulous approach, ensuring that every guitar he makes is both artistically and acoustically refined.

About the guitar

This 2025 guitar, No. 249, is a fine example of Antonio Raya Ferrer’s Granada school craftsmanship. The spruce soundboard provides excellent clarity and projection, while the Indian rosewood back and sides contribute depth, sustain, and a dark warmth that complements the brightness of the top. This tonal pairing offers a well-balanced sound with a lyrical, singing quality in the trebles and firm, present basses.

The instrument’s lightweight build and traditional internal construction give it the responsiveness and charm expected from a top-tier Spanish guitar. Its air resonance around G/G# supports a strong tonal foundation with impressive volume and long sustain. The neck is slim and the setup is exceptionally precise, offering superb playability and effortless left-hand movement even during technically demanding passages.

Finished with hand-applied French polish, the guitar maintains the natural responsiveness of the wood and showcases the beauty of the selected tonewoods. Fitted with high-quality Fustero tuners and strung with Knobloch EDC 34.0 strings, this concert-level instrument is ready for performance, delivering elegance, power, and character in equal measure.

  • Classical Guitar

The classical guitar, with its soft nylon strings and characteristic timbre, has become a symbol of chamber music, Spanish tradition, and concert repertoire. Its modern form was shaped by Antonio de Torres in the 19th century, setting the standard for the body, fan bracing, and the 65-centimeter scale length that are still used today. Instruments in this category open up a rich palette from the refined Romantic miniatures of Tárrega to the majestic concertos of Rodrigo. Here you will find guitars that preserve historical continuity and at the same time inspire new interpretations.
