Antonio Marín Montero (b. 1933, Granada) is regarded as one of the most influential Spanish guitar makers of the 20th and 21st centuries. Deeply connected to the Granada school, he is also remembered for his collaboration with the French luthier Robert Bouchet, whose ideas he studied and refined. Over the course of his career, Marín built instruments that seamlessly bridged Spanish and French traditions, known for their clarity, projection, and refinement. His work has set standards for both classical and flamenco guitars, inspiring generations of luthiers. As one of the last living masters of Granada’s golden era of guitar making, Antonio Marín Montero’s instruments are now celebrated as modern benchmarks of craftsmanship and artistry.About the guitar:
This 2024 flamenca blanca, numbered 934, is one of the very last guitars built by Antonio Marín Montero. Crafted with a spruce top and cypress back and sides, it captures the immediacy and brilliance expected of a traditional flamenco instrument, while offering unusual versatility that makes it equally compelling for classical repertoire. The sound is colorful, airy, and rich in overtones, yet remarkably forgiving and round in character, qualities that distinguish it from many other spruce and cypress guitars. Its response is fast and sensitive, but with a malleability that allows the player to shape the tone with ease. The guitar is fitted with mechanized pegheads, which preserve the lightweight headstock and tonal qualities typical of flamenco instruments, while providing the ease of tuning and maintenance associated with modern machine heads. This instrument sets an extraordinarily high standard, serving as both a culmination of Marín’s lifelong artistry and a reference point for the next generation of flamenco makers.Condition:
The guitar is in mint condition, perfectly preserved as a new instrument. It shows no signs of wear and remains exactly as it left the hands of Antonio Marín Montero.
Otto Rauch is a German guitar maker from the small town of Obermoschel in Rheinland-Pfalz. With over 35 years of experience as a guitar maker, he is one of the German pioneers of double-top construction. After repairing a Matthias Dammann guitar in the early 1990s, Otto Rauch began building doubel-top guitars. At first, he used cedar struts and then a balsa core, a construction he continued to develop over the years. While helping a friend set up his violin making business, Otto Rauch came across the name of the 18th century Venetian violin maker Domenico Montagnana. His cellos are praised for their dark tone, fantastic sound volume and enigmatic construction. As these three attributes reflect Otto’s construction, he adopted the name, and the Domenico Montagnana model was born.
