About the luthier
Andreas Madimenos was born in 1984 in Athens, Greece. After completing his music studies, he pursued academic training in Management and Financial Investments, earning degrees from the Athens University of Economics and Business. In 2014, his passion for woodworking and guitars led him to apprentice with Greek luthier Pavlos Gypas, which marked the beginning of his path as a guitar maker.
Today, Andreas runs a fully equipped workshop where he builds innovative instruments that blend traditional concepts with contemporary materials and engineering. His influences range from historical makers such as Vicente Arias and Johann Georg Stauffer to modern builders like Thomas Humphrey, Greg Smallman, and Zbigniew Gnatek. With a focus on power, responsiveness, and structural innovation, Andreas aims to create guitars that provide new expressive possibilities for demanding players. Rafael Aguirre, among others, currently performs on one of his lattice guitars.
About the guitar
This 2025 instrument, No. 74, represents Andreas Madimenos’s latest work in the lattice tradition, closely aligned with the principles of the Australian school. It features a cedar soundboard with a satin shellac finish, and a back and sides set made from doubled Macassar ebony. Structurally, it includes a unique, patent-protected internal frame developed in collaboration with Charalampos Koumridis, designed to enhance projection, sustain, and low-end response.
The headstock is fitted with handmade Pagos tuners, and the neck is carved from Spanish cedar with an African ebony fingerboard. The Indian rosewood bridge features a refined tie block, matched in color and form with the bindings and rosette. The bindings themselves are cast directly onto the body using custom-colored epoxy resin, offering a visually cohesive and original aesthetic. The guitar also includes an ergonomic armrest for increased playing comfort.
Sonically, the guitar has an impressive dynamic range and loudness, while retaining excellent playability. Tonally, this guitar offers a rich and powerful voice with deep basses, lush overtones, and singing trebles. Its elevated responsiveness and structural design support dynamic control and sustain, making it well-suited for both concert repertoire and modern expressive techniques. Combining visual boldness with acoustic sophistication, this instrument reflects Andreas Madimenos’s pursuit of innovation grounded in classical ideals.
