Marco Lijoi – Guitar Maker
Early Fascination with Music and Wood
My journey into the world of music began at the age of four when I was introduced to the classical guitar through the Suzuki Method. As I grew older, my fascination with both wood and music continued to flourish, eventually guiding me toward a path where these passions merged into the art of guitar making.
Academic Background and Discovery of Luthiery
After completing my classical high school education and spending a year studying physics at the University of Turin, I felt a strong desire to unite the scientific world of physics with the artistic realms of music and craftsmanship. This calling led me to a one-year guitar-making course under the guidance of esteemed luthier Aldo Illotta in Biella.
Formal Training in Milan
The following year, I pursued further excellence in guitar craftsmanship by enrolling at the Civica Scuola di Liuteria in Milan. Here, I had the privilege of learning from some of Italy’s finest guitar makers. Over four years, I refined my skills and absorbed the knowledge and techniques passed down through generations.
My dedication culminated in earning my diploma as a master guitar maker – a milestone that propelled me into a world of creativity, innovation, and refined craftsmanship.
Professional Experience and Personal Workshop
During my studies at the Civica Scuola di Liuteria, I also embarked on a new chapter by founding my own business. This marked my formal entry into professional guitar making, where I could channel my passion, expertise, and creativity into crafting exceptional instruments.
In addition, I had the opportunity to work for two years at Salvi, a renowned harp manufacturer. This experience provided valuable insights into precision craftsmanship, attention to detail, and sound quality — all of which continue to influence my work as a guitar maker.
Philosophy and Vision
As I continue to grow as a guitar maker, my aim is to create instruments that deeply resonate with musicians. Each guitar is crafted with patience, care, and artistic intention to offer a rich, balanced, and harmonious tone. From my early Suzuki Method beginnings to becoming a seasoned luthier, my journey is a testament to passion, dedication, and the pursuit of artistic excellence.
