About the Luthier – Hugues Boivin

Hugues Boivin began his path in the art of guitar making in 1997 with a course focused on the construction of lute instruments. Although this training was brief, it provided the technical foundation for building his first guitar. During his subsequent studies in musicology, he continued to build instruments independently. In 2008, during an extended stay abroad, he decided to dedicate himself entirely to guitar making.

Over the next four years, he focused on historical instruments – lutes, baroque and romantic guitars – as well as selected classical models. Since 2012, Hugues has been working in his workshop in Merry La Vallée in Burgundy, where he now specializes in crafting classical guitars. His work reflects both his experience with historical instruments and his methodical approach to construction. Each guitar is the result of precise and consistent craftsmanship, shaped by a deep familiarity with the traditions of the instrument.
