Sergei de Jonge is one of Canada’s most influential guitar makers. He began his career in the late 1960s as the first apprentice of Jean-Claude Larrivée, laying the foundation for a remarkable journey in luthiery. In 1972, he established his own workshop, focusing primarily on classical guitars of exceptional quality. Over the years, he has shared his expertise through teaching and passed his skills on to his daughter, Joshia de Jonge, who today is an acclaimed luthier in her own right.

About the Guitar Maker

Sergei de Jonge learned the art of guitar making in the late 1960s as the first apprentice of Jean-Claude Larrivée, who would later become one of Canada’s most renowned luthiers. In 1972, de Jonge established his own workshop and focused primarily on building classical guitars. Over the years, he shared his knowledge and skills through teaching courses – and with his daughter Joshia, who now runs her own workshop.
