Dominic Flynn
Dominic Flynn
Dominic Flynn, born and raised in Chicago, began studying classical guitar on his eleventh birthday after receiving a nylon-string instrument. He later attended the Chicago Academy for the Arts, where he expanded his musical activities to include composing and performing jazz and classical works. In 2014 he won the national YoungArts Competition as a soloist.
After moving to Los Angeles, he completed a Bachelor’s degree in Classical Guitar Performance at the University of Southern California. During this time he achieved second place in the international Lee Ritenour Six String Theory Competition in 2016. Alongside his performances, Flynn began composing more extensively for string quartet, jazz sextet, and classical guitar, creating several substantial works. These included sets of original compositions performed at the Blue Whale in Los Angeles and the Jazz Showcase in Chicago, as well as a six-movement classical guitar suite.
As a recipient of the 2018 EuroStrings Scholarship, Flynn toured festivals and venues across Europe, with concerts in Spain, Paris, London, and Berlin. He recorded the first three movements of his suite with Open Strings Berlin and the fourth movement with Siccas. He plans to record the fifth and sixth movements with Guitar Salon International, where he also works regularly as a sound engineer.
Flynn studied with Scott Tennant, Bill Kanengiser, Pepe Romero, and Vince Mendoza, all of whom played significant roles in his development as a performer and composer.
