Karel Dedain – Guitar Maker

Born in 1976, Karel Dedain has been building guitars since 1998 and has worked professionally as a luthier since 2006. He crafts about eight guitars per year, all of which are made to order. He lives and works in the beautiful city of Ghent, Belgium. Dedain combines the construction techniques of the old Spanish masters with more modern methods. Each guitar he creates is the result of skill, insight, and passion, making it a truly unique instrument. Only the finest woods—hand-selected and dried in his workshop—are used.

Karel Dedain guitars are sold all over the world, from Europe to the USA and Asia. His clientele includes both amateur and professional musicians seeking a high-quality concert instrument.

Since 2006, he has been teaching classical guitar making at the Center for Musical Instrument Making (CMB) in Puurs, Belgium, where he himself trained from 1998 to 2005, primarily under Walter Verreydt.

From the beginning, Karel Dedain has also built replicas of historical classical guitars by renowned makers such as Torres, Garcia, Arias, and Esteso. For him, studying these original instruments is the best way to better understand the tradition and history of guitar making and to continue refining his craft.
