Laura Rouy – Classical Guitarist
Born in 1998, Laura Rouy is one of the most promising young figures in the classical guitar scene. Her refined tone, expressive phrasing and natural musicality have made her a distinctive voice among the new generation of guitarists.
Early studies and education
Laura began playing guitar at the age of five, guided by her father, jazz guitarist Pascal Rouy. She continued her studies at the music school in Le Mée-sur-Seine with Christine Martin-Culet and Carlos Marin, before moving to Paris to study with Gabriel Bianco and Antoine Fougeray at the Maurice Ravel Conservatory, where she earned her Diploma in Musical Studies in 2018.
Academic path and competitions
In 2019 she began her bachelor’s degree at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam in the class of Gabriel Bianco. She later studied at the Hochschule für Musik in Basel under Pablo Marquez, completing her studies in 2023.
Laura Rouy has received multiple prizes in national and international competitions. She won first prize at the Arpoador International Competition in Carry-le-Rouet in 2017 and 2018, and second prize at the International Drôme Guitar Competition in Valence in 2016 and 2018. In 2021 she earned the title “Révélation Guitare Classique” after winning the Concours International Roland Dyens, which led to an interview in Classical Guitar Magazine and invitations to leading European festivals.
Concerts and chamber music
Laura Rouy has performed at many festivals across Europe, including the Festival Radio France Occitanie, the Paris Guitar Festival de Montrouge and Les Internationales de la Guitare. As an active chamber musician, she performs in Duo Canopée with cellist Pauline Ngolo, exploring a diverse repertoire that blends lyricism and modern colors.
Instruments and collaborations
Laura plays a 2021 Vicente Carrillo “Herencia” guitar and uses Savarez strings. Her performances often include works by Roland Dyens, Mathias Duplessy and Carlos Marín, interpreted with precision and warmth.
With a growing international profile and a deep commitment to her art, Laura Rouy continues to develop as one of the most engaging young voices in classical guitar. Her playing combines discipline with a rare sense of emotional honesty, marking her as a musician to follow closely in the years ahead.
