Gvantsa (Gvaneta) Betaneli – Classical Guitarist
Gvantsa (Gvaneta) Betaneli is a Georgian classical guitarist and prizewinner of numerous national and international competitions. She is widely regarded as one of the outstanding performers of her generation.
Born in Tbilisi, Georgia, Gvaneta began guitar lessons at the age of three under the guidance of her father, Ferdinand Betaneli. She gave her first solo concert at the age of five. At thirteen, she successfully participated in a competition and became a soloist with the State Philharmonic Orchestra of Georgia. One year later, she began recording for renowned Georgian labels, followed by international concert activity.
She graduated with honors from the Central Music School for Gifted Children at the Tbilisi State Conservatory. At the age of sixteen, she became the youngest student at the Tbilisi V. Sarajishvili State Conservatory, where she completed both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees with top grades.
In 2011, Gvaneta received a scholarship from the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) to study at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts (HfMDK Frankfurt). She completed her studies there in 2014 with the KA diploma and subsequently continued her education at the same institution in the class of Helmut Österreich, graduating with highest distinction in 2017.
During her studies in Georgia, she was awarded a Presidential Scholarship of Georgia five consecutive times, one of the country’s most prestigious student honors. In Germany, she was supported by the DAAD on four occasions, including three DAAD STIBET III scholarships for outstanding international students in 2013, 2014 and 2016.
In November 2018, Gvaneta won an audition and received a further prestigious grant from Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now.
She has won more than ten prizes at international competitions in Georgia, Armenia, Belarus, Ukraine, Croatia and Russia. Among them are a First Prize at the 10th International Guitar Competition “Guitar Renaissance” in Gomel, a First Prize at the III International Competition “Renaissance” in Gyumri, and prizes at international competitions in Tbilisi and Bale.
Additional distinctions include a Special Diploma from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and the Embassy of Ukraine in Georgia in 2010 for her contribution to cultural exchange, as well as a special diploma from the Municipality of Cártama in Spain in 2017.
Gvaneta regularly presents master instruments by renowned guitar makers and records videos with Siccas Guitars in Karlsruhe, Germany. Her performances have reached hundreds of thousands of viewers online.
She maintains an active international concert career, performing regularly in Europe, Eastern Europe and Central America. In addition to her solo activity, she is frequently engaged in chamber music projects and appears in duos, trios and larger ensembles.
Her concerts have been widely reviewed by international magazines, newspapers and online publications.
